He was talking about history in SW universe, his "reality".
In our reality, can substitute "history" for "lore" or "fiction".
Or you can look at (our) real history the same way he did his...
Either way, this characters take is worth pondering...
Gotta say though...
He ended up dead, and the curious apprentice who took an interest in the history Plagueis dismissed became empoeror of the galaxy. Also, perhaps, worth pondering. His dismissal of historical and traditional continuity, coming as it was from a sort of arrogance instead of a genuinely superior approach, arguably doomed him. Had he achieved immortality and consequently regarded the rule as obsolete it would have been accurate, not arrogant. As it was he had merely discovered the possibility and experienced success with experimentation. Having not yet achieved a successful implementation of this new way, he was betting on himself. And he ultimately lost that bet, but... something to be said for betting on yourself when the outcome is unknown.
Plenty of lessons to mine out of just this one exchange between master and apprentice.
Something we don't get anymore in the post-Disney era...
Regarding the mythos, how do you regard it all?
I've seen people rep. their own perspective from all ends of the spectrum over the years, some disdain, ignore, or simply don't care about Star Wars - others question why people who feel that way use the terminology if they don't have a fondness for or resonance with or appreciation for some of the stories or characters therein. I've seen both positions defended and attacked, seen people change their minds from one to the other...
Always interesting to see where new people fall on that.
There's not really a "right" answer so much as there's opportunity for discussion.
